One of the things the Books Revieved database will hopefully be used for is to let perspective book review authors know whether or not a book they are interested in reviewing has already been reviewed in the JIE. To this end, not only can books be listed as reviewed or not, but there is a choice for “JIE Review in Progress.”
As of now, we haven’t quite worked out a perfect way to keep this up to date, but Ned and I have come up with the following triggers that will indicate a certain book is in the process of being reviewed:
1. An email from Reid asking a certain book to be prepared for shipping to a book review author and/or a message from him saying a certain book has been chosen for review.
2. When a book review is submitted and the EO checklist is completed. By this time, however, the book review is probably already close to publication, so the ideal solution is to record this earlier in the process.
Hopefully, as time goes on this will become a little more streamlined. As with any other blog post, any one with access to the blog can leave comments to each post to add ideas or explain later solutions.
