Joel Omura Kurihara Fund

The Journal of Industrial Ecology is supported in part by a modest endowment, the Joel Omura Kurihara Fund. Joel attended the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and the Yale School of Management and graduated in 1992. He went to work for Conrail, a US freight rail company, and was active in the Global Environmental Management Initiative. Joel was a very bright, very committed, and very energetic believer in the importance of greening corporate practice and believed in the importance of dialogue across the sometimes complicated boundaries between industry, government and activists. When he died in 1995, his family, colleagues, and friends established a memorial fund to honor him. His parents asked that funds be used to support activities that promote dialogue about business and the environment.  The Journal of Industrial Ecology is informed by Joel’s injunction “to let the conversation continue!”
